Honoring the Fallen
What does it signify?
The riderless horse is a symbol of commemoration of the last journey of a fallen Military, Military Veterans and Emergency Services personnel. The rider’s boots placed backwards on the saddle to symbolize the deceased warrior looking back on their comrades for the final time.
A Source of Healing
What do people say when they see the Riderless Horse
…It is about bravery and honor. And sacrifice. And so those things are really important in America. It’s similar to the missing man formation of the air force.
…The Riderless Horse: one of the oldest and most moving military traditions.
…The formality and haunting beauty of a funeral where a riderless horse, with the backwards facing boots in the stirrups, is being led along as part of the procession is always a striking image of such great respect.

Our Mission and Goals
Richard & Sonya Bond are Co-Owners of A New Life Ranch LLC an Equine Training Facility in Fair Bluff North Carolina.
Richard is a career U. S. Air Force Veteran and a member of the American Legion who brings his military and equine experiences together to assist the grieving families of those military and veterans who have fallen. Richard has been offering the Caparisoned Horse through the American Legion for several
years honoring our military fallen and their grieving families.
Patriots Heroes and Horses is proud to offer the Caparisoned Horse, also known as the ceremonial Military Riderless Horse for the funeral procession of the fallen military or military veterans.
With the large number of prior military in the Grand Strand and
surrounding areas, we found that funeral homes were having
trouble finding ways to honor the fallen. Patriots Heroes and Horses will honor the fallen with their specially trained military style horses using a similar ceremonial style as the U.S. Army Old Guard.
The Short-Term Goal of Patriots Heros and Horses is to use the
horses from A New Life Ranch LLC to honor as many military,
military veterans, emergency personnel and their families as possible and to offer this service at little cost to no cost.
Our Long-Term Goal is to grow to the point that we can use
volunteers and donations, with the hope to be financially able to
honor every military, military veteran, and emergency personnel within our area in both North and South Carolina. We want to be able to provide these, and additional services to the grieving families at no cost.
The main key to the success of this venture is both internal and
external marketing of our services and the willingness and
generosity of volunteers and donors to accomplish our mission.
